Church Shootings Stun Colorado Communities, Spark Questions

12/10/2007

Five people are dead and two are injured after two shootings Sunday at Colorado Christian centers that are 75 miles apart.

Four of the killings happened at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo., after Sunday morning worship when a man dressed in all black and wearing combat boots fired an assault rifle in the church parking lot, killing three. A security guard then fired back, killing the gunman, according to Reuters.

Twelve hours earlier, a man entered the Youth With A Mission training center in Arvada, Colo., and killed two people while wounding two others, according to USA Today. The gunman then fled on foot. Police are investigating whether or not the two shootings are linked. New Life Pastor Brady Boyd called the attacks “senseless” and “random.”

Of the deceased from New Life, two females, 16 and 18, were sisters, USA Today reported. To read the latest on this developing story, click here.
