Phoenix Art Museum Hosts ‘Illuminated Manuscripts’

10/11/2007

The Saint John’s Bible, which is the only handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned since the advent of the printing press more than 500 years ago, will be on display from December through March, at the Phoenix Art Museum.

The museum will also present collections of handmade Bibles and other Scriptural manuscripts from 1300 years, including The Early History of the Bible and Selections from the James Melikian Collection. Each collection will showcase more than 20 rare manuscripts, as well as Bible covers and sacred texts from the Jewish tradition and early printed Biblical texts in English, Latin, Greek, Aramaic, Armenian and Arabic.

Besides hosting these collections, the museum will also lead discussions about the exhibits. To find out more about the event, and the Illuminated Manuscripts in general, click here.
