Christian Musician Produces Music Online Through Virtual Studio

09/11/2007

Kirk Smith, a Christian musician and entrepreneur, has launched two music Web sites. The two businesses, OakStreamMusic.com and OakStockMusic.com, both use technology that will allow Smith to record and produce original music, and take it online.

OakStockMusic was created to address a growing need for royalty-free music. “It’s one thing to grab a song off iTunes and use it as a backing track when you’re making home movies, but it’s another story when it comes to commercial use,” Smith explained in a press release. Users need permission to use music, and it’s usually very costly. But Smith’s Web site will provide royalty-free music that producers can buy and download right from the Web site. “We provide a variety of affordable stock music that can be licensed for use, or we can compose custom music to fit a customer’s needs.”

Each month will see new tracks added to the site’s library, according to the press release. Smith also composes and records his music through OakStream Music Productions, which provides production services for companies that need them – especially companies that would like to do it in a way other than having to travel to a studio, like churches. As a worship leader, the press release notes, Smith hears a lot of music on Sundays that isn’t being recorded, but should be. He is currently producing a CD of original songs by Ralph Zacharias, a worship leader in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

You can hear demos of Smith’s music at http://oakstockmusic.com.
