Faith-Based Amusement Association Launches

AUSTIN, Texas -- With the goal of providing "influential amusement" in their industry, a group of 48 met last week as the founding members of the Faith-Based Amusement Association (FBAA). The group gathered during the recent International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions convention.

The association includes individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, including owners, managers, employees, architects, engineers, designers, vendors, faith-based companies, developers, consultants, churches and more. One of the association's goals is to encourage members to use their facilities and careers not just to entertain people temporarily, but to permanently influence people's lives.

"We take great pleasure in sharing our faith and praying with all of our employees," says Johnny Blevins of Splash Kingdom Waterpark in Canton, Texas. "Second, we have some of our favorite Bible verses around the park and play Christian music all the time. Hopefully, as we interact with our guests and employees, we're showing Christ’s love for others."

Other goals for the association include:

• Organizing regional and national events to be held at member facilities
• Partnering with local churches
• Distribution of devotional and study materials
• Coordinating charitable events
• Continuing to encourage members to use their businesses to make spiritual change in the lives of others

“The response to this new association has been tremendous," says Reagan Hillier, president of the Faith-Based Amusement Association. "We're seeking to bring spiritual matters to the marketplace in a friendly way through amusement and entertainment.

"This new network of Christians will take our efforts to the next level,' Hillier adds. "The potential for impact is unlimited, and we're excited to see God work through this endeavor.”

The FBAA plans to hold events at several major industry events in 2007, as well as across the country at member facilities.
