MyChurch: Bringing Your Church to the Masses
PHOENIX – Churches, like people, have distinct personalities. Denominations aside, worshippers often have a difficult time finding a new church. A new website, MyChurch.org, can help make that search a little easier.
Modeled after the social networking site MySpace.com, MyChurch provides churches across the country a rare opportunity to present their “personality” online to thousands of Christians, as well as a chance to deepen their connection with existing members.
Church pages include photo galleries, service schedules, pastor blogs, church bulletins, special events listings, and links to the homepages of church members.
Just like MySpace, members can blog, post pictures, customize their page and link to their friends’ pages. Unique features include e-sermons, online prayer requests, and a hefty reviews section, where members can pitch in their two cents on new music, movies and books of interest to the Christian community.
MyChurch also encourages non-Christians to sign up and take advantage of its unique social network, which provides the opportunity for pastors to reach out to the unsaved.
Still in the beta testing stages, MyChurch is already hopping with activity. Boasting more than 27,000 members and 5,500 member churches, the site sees at least 500 new posts each day.
MyChurch offers free membership for individuals and churches, as well as a premium package for churches that want to get more out of their pages. For $12 a month, the site offers 1 GB of disk space, advertisement-free pages, 24-hour support and a PayPal gateway, which allows churches to accept online donations.
