Church Business 05/2004: 2004 AV Offerings

2004 AV Offerings:
Speakers, Lights, Amps, Mixers, Recording Gear and More — All Recommended Especially for Worship Spaces

On a Budget? You Don’t Have to Sacrifice Quality Sound

Designed for small to medium-sized churches, the brand-new Crest Performance CPT Series loudspeakers offer crisp highs and smooth mid-range performance for excellent speaking and performance sound reproduction. The smooth mid-range offered by CPT loudspeakers enables better intelligibility, allowing your congregation to hear every sonic nuance as intended from the audio source being amplified. This is particularly imperative for loudspeakers used in voice reproduction, as the mid-range vocal region is the area that generates the most compliments and complaints from the people in the pews.

CPT loudspeakers include three-point flying hardware on the top and bottom for inverted flying, as well as input plate, two-position barrier strips, four-pin Neutrik connectors, 90- by 40-degree horns, and 1.5-inch titanium compression drivers.

These speakers retails for $375 to $515 and feature peak power handling from 150 watts to 1,000 watts. Program power handling ranges between 150 watts and 500 watts. For details on this soon-to-be released series, call the experts at Crest Audio at 201.909.8700.

Professional Quality at an Affordable Price

The DMX-R100 digital audio mixer from Sony lets you invest in a fully professional digital mixer specifically designed for high-quality stereo and surround sound production. The experts at Sony made the DMX-R1000 flexible and easy to use and packed it with extensive features. Then, they priced it competitively.

DMX-R100 is a compact, 48-channel mixer with 25 motorized faders, a sophisticated control panel with touch-screen control, a fully integrated package of automation, a digital routing matrix and machine control. For advanced operation, this mixer’s control surface was derived from the world-renowned Sony OXF-R3 console and shares the same philosophy of eliminating operational barriers so that its use is both fast and intuitive.

DMX-R100’s ergonomically-friendly control panel devotes a considerable amount of space to individual controls for fast, accurate adjustment, and they’re laid out in a logical manner that reflects the way they’re used.

The DMX-R1000 retails for $18,400.

Smart and Good-Looking: The Perfect Combo

The experts at Martin Professional say their MAC 250 profile moving-head spotlight — a compact version of the popular MAC 500 — was designed to be smart and beautiful. Its elegant, contemporary design successfully combines high light output (3,180 lumens) with small lamp size and offers advanced pattern illumination capabilities for stunning mid-air effects.

A motorized color wheel houses 12 dichroic color filters and offers split-color possibilities, and a motorized pattern wheel houses eight easily replaceable metal and glass gobos and rotates bi-directionally at various speeds.

Dedicated anchoring points, a safety wire attachment point, quarter-turn fastening system and mid-pan-range locator make for trouble-free rigging. A 250-watt lamp provides 2,000 hours of lamp life.

An Economic Solution for Audio Distribution

As the designers of Aviom distributed audio networks point out, current solutions for audio distribution have limited flexibility. And, feeding the same signals to multiple destinations is complex and costly.

With one Aviom AN-Series distributed audio network, however, as many as 64 channels of high-resolution audio can be fed to an unlimited number of destinations for mixing and/or recording purposes — all with one easy-to-install Cat-5 cable between devices using Aviom’s proprietary A-Net data transmission protocol.

The AN-Series was created to make designing, installing, interfacing and using a complex audio network simple. In fact, Aviom experts say the word “extensible” — the ability to extend in length and width — is the best description for the way their distributed audio network functions.

Additionally, this system is fully compatible with Aviom’s Personal Monitor Mixing System, which reps say has been very popular for church installations. Log on to www.aviom.com to find a dealer or sales rep.

Evolution Series Mics Up the Ante

When Sennheiser introduced its Evolution Series microphones and accessories a few years ago, it heralded a new era in wireless technology. With the advent of the Evolution series, even the most budget-conscious churches were offered the ability to bring professional grade wireless technology into their worship centers. Now, with an eye to the future, Sennheiser has introduced the Evolution wireless Generation 2.

Available from All Pro Sound, the G2 series once again pushes the limits of performance with unsurpassed audio fidelity, ruggedness and ease of use. Completely redesigned from the inside out, Evolution G2 is packed with features, including smaller body packs, larger backlit LCD displays, patented AutoScan function on all receivers, and an intuitive interface. Additionally, these new systems now use AA batteries and feature battery status indicators on the transmitter and receivers.

As a master distributor for Sennheiser products, All Pro Sound offers the EW100G2 series, the EW300G2 series and the more advanced EW500G2 series. Both models are available in either lavalier or handheld. These rugged, all-metal construction units are rack mountable and now feature XLR jacks for easy connections. The EW500G2 units feature a unique two-color backlit LCD display that changes from green to red, indicating various performance options such as mute, peak signal and low battery.

Given the success of the original Evolution series, All Pro Sound’s Director of Sales and Distribution Creighton Jordan says he believes the new Generation 2 will make an even bigger impact in the church market. “With the new features and overall improvement, Sennheiser has taken a proven winner to new heights of achievement,” he says.

All Pro Sound designs and installs audio, video and lighting systems for churches across the country. Call 800.925.5776 for a free consultation to answer your technology-related questions.
